When we moved into our house nearly 4 years ago (wow) I was ecstatic that we had a dining room with wall length HUGGGGE windows, lots of natural light and large enough to actually have my dream dining table. Fast forward to today, we still have our tiny little table that seat 4 people and all this space left in the dining room (that may or may not be slowly getting filled with mannequins, vintage luggage and craft supplies). Not to mention the hefty pinterest board I have devoted to this dream dining room. Eeek.

The last time that I really put much thought into creating a work space, it was with my old brick and mortar location in mind. Now, I'm working with my house and aiming for both a design / art studio. Luckily I have an actual designated office space. One of the perks of older homes that I like are the quirky layouts. My office is a long room the runs almost the whole length of the backside of the house. It's like an over sized hallway that connects 3 parts of the house. One entry leads into the back yard / laundry room, one leads to the master bedroom and the last leads to another hallway where the other bedrooms are and another entry to the living room is. The office space is very convenient and has built ins and two closets! It was definitely a selling point for me with the house.



Currently my home office (below)  holds two desks (one computer and one art desk). It's also holding a portion of my shop inventory! The weather is finally nice enough to paint so my wheels are turning with inspiration. It's time to have a garage sale and simplify! I'm really loving the green, pink and gold. It's very Wes Anderson to me. I may do something similar with my built in book shelves. I love the idea of room length desks, but I don't know if that's possible in my space. Excuse the clutter haha!

 The past few weeks have been basically all work and no play with the launch of the new Gypsy Beard Vintage website and all that entails. I'm taking it easy the rest of the week aside from finishing up some freelance client work. So.... It's time for some pretty pictures. I've been crushing hard on these quirky A frame houses and cabins since I was a high schooler. I've even devoted an entire pinterest board to them. There was one in my friend's neighborhood that always intrigued me.

Now that the shop is officially functioning, its time to move on to the office side of things. For the grand opening of the shop I was focusing on only the front end retail side because I knew that people would be mingling about and hanging out all over the shop and I honestly didn't want all of my equipment, computers, cameras and work stuff laying around while everyone was coming and going.

I'm so excited because I can basically take all of those images that I've been pinning for years of my dream work space and put them into action. The front of the shop is all lofty high ceilings and exposed brick. The studio/office side is all white walls but still with the high tin ceilings. One of my very favorite parts of the whole place is the skylight that is over the studio area.

I'm torn between having sort of a conference table so that when clients come in or if I have other people coming in to work we can easily work together OR having a table that runs lengthwise down one side of the room.  Either way it would have to be something that could easily be multipurpose, (like, dining room table, homework station, painting station, sewing table etc!) as well as something that could work well with what ever event, party or thing we have going on at the shop.

I'm loving the brown & black combos,  pretty gallery walls and unique furniture in these pictures. I want a dreamy, loungey and interesting living room. I want combinations of feminine and masculine. I like classy mixed with rustic.

Finding the motivation to decorate and hang more things up has been very hard in the past. It's too easy to come home from work and flop on the couch or spend the entire weekend cleaning the house. But it's driving me nuts not having my home how I want it! My next big project to tackle is our living room. We bought out couches second hand and they aren't really my taste, but they're ok.  Also, our previous living room was about 12x12 and our current is about 25X30 so we've gained a TON of space.

I've picked up quite a few neat things (wire baskets, cool industrial letters, a few prints) that will look awesome. Time to get to hanging  and organizing things! I definitely need to get a few awesome pieces of art still.

Happy Sunday! This weekend was much overdue! Last weekend was busy busy so  relaxing and going with the flow this weekend was a must. We went to the flea market, watched lots of movies and took a much over due trip Earthbound Trading Co . I picked up some great stuff. (Check out their pinterest! It's dreamy and full of inspiration!) I have a whole weekends worth of photos to edit and share too.  I'm on a mission to find a few key pieces for the house:

1. A retro/antique buffet-type piece for our dining room. Our dining room is fairly large and the walls are bare so it's the next room on my list to knock out.

2. A cute little chair/bench for my bedroom.

If you follow my blog at all you might recall us finally buying a house and moving in a little over a month ago. For the most part we are unpacked but things are not exactly where they need to be yet. I've been strugglinh with doing a little here and a little there but at the end of the day it felt and looked like I had gotten absolutely nothing done. So, I decided to take it one room at a time because, basically, I get discouraged if I don't see progress or a finished project.  So this past weekend I tackled the most cluttered room in the house, my son's room. I organized his toys and books into bins and boxes. Sifted through clothes that didn't fit or get worn. Now we can finally get things like rugs, shelves etc.. Here are a few images I'm in love with that I hope to use as inspiration for my little Conrad's room. (I'm in love with silly, goofy animal art prints in particular!)

 The other day we popped into Earthbound Trading Company like we always do when we go to the mall... I was surprised at how things had changed! They still carried their usual bohemian style clothing, jewelry, hookahs and what not but they had a new collection of home decor that I immediately fell in love with. I can't wait to go back a pick up a few more items. They have new sections of "curiosities" featuring insects, antlers, anatomical things and animals in human clothing that I thought were very unique and totally up my alley. I picked up a mini statue of a cat in a suit.. with a can. I mean, c'mon. This is so me. Haha.

I apologize for being so MIA lately... Conrad's birthday party is this Thursday and I've been trying to get everything together for his party and get presents bought and clean the house like crazy. Things will hopefully be back to normal(ish) next week.

A window seat: for quiet moments with books or story time.
Lots of vintage charm, particularly stained glass windows, old hardwood floors, clawfoot tub etc..
A dreamy studio space.
A decent sized yard for forts, tree houses, a garden and finally a dog.
A great porch for mornings/evenings drinking coffee and tea with people that I love.
A garage for my handsome man to do his "working on cars and old things" manly stuff.

We are still half heartedly home shopping. I have my eye on a few places that are just about perfect... but I'm not getting my hopes up or anything. I'm not super particular on things like how big the rooms are or all stainless steel kitchen etc... I want a home.... a cozy, comfortable place to relax in, make memories in, fall in love again in. I've always wanted to live in an older home... and it's in the details. I love the interesting shaped windows, the thick window sills, old wooden floors, claw foot bath tubs, intricate details on the doors and porches and of course the tin ceiling and roofs. (We have the same dresser as #2 so I'm so looking forward to creating something similar for our bedroom!)

We've talked a lot about buying an older home that needs work and I think we're both exciting about a challenge like that. One of the many things about my boyfriend that I adore is that he prefers to live simply.  He doesn't spend time worrying about obtaining superficial things like expensive clothes or nice cars. He prefers staying at home and watching movies, cooking or working in the garage over partying or going out to eat. He has taught me so much about life and the value of family and the simple things in life. *Warm fuzzy feelings*

That being said the only thing I'm weird about and will be picky about in old homes is old toilets, sinks and bath tubs.  Probably anywhere that I move to those things will need to be replaced at some point. I just don't really want to reuse someone's old toilet, especially one 100 years old haha. I've watched enough HGTV to know that it's unrealistic to expect to get everything that you want so I'm keeping my eyes and mind open!

closets turned work spaces are one my favorite things in the world. 

So far after moving into our new house my biggest worry is closets. In my apartment I had 3 people sharing our walk in (not so walk in) closet. I've been searching for storage options now that we have one closet in each bedroom. I'm a bit obsessed with tidy/fun looking storage. I came across the blog www.iheartorganixing.blogspot.com and fell in love with everything on her blog. If you want ideas or solutions to anything home organizing related READ READ AND READ SOME MORE! For Conrad I want something that is extremely functional but also has a bit of a fun side... i.e hidden treasure room or cave.
