What Do You Want To Learn About Branding? Your Branding + Design Questions Answered

7:12 AMUnknown

Part of the reason why I started blogging was to connect with wonderful people and potentially help them in some way if I could. Whether it was by showing them cute cat pictures (like in my early days) or sharing with them how to style a vintage dress, I like to think that they and you are here because you all like what I write. (Even if it's just to join in on my sarcastic comments.)

When I first started blogging, I wouldn't have imagined that I'd be opening a brick and mortar store and then closing it and then going on adventures selling across Texas. Nor did I think that I'd be sharing with you tips for starting a business or using social media. So I am here today to ask you:

What do you want to learn about branding?

Ask anything you want regarding branding. Don't know where to start with branding your business, blog or product? Don't understand why it's even important?  I'll do my best to answer in the comments. Or if you'd rather take it to Facebook or Instagram, you can join the discussion there. I thought about starting a webinar or doing a Twitter party but I wanted everyone to be able to join in and not limit it to a certain time frame. Hopefully at some point we will be able to do that though. I'll see what you guys are asking the most and write a follow up post with the top questions just to contain it to one area.

And if you are interested in working with someone to help brand your business, blog or product, let's talk!

  1. Hi Kat! I have a question! I understand that branding is about how your business is viewed emotionally and I feel like I get the whole concept behind it, BUT, what I am having trouble with is staying completely coherent and consistent with it. Being a one-woman business, the business essentially is me and my values and/or personality, but I have always felt that I am a multitude of things. I am big ball of contrasts, I like black because it is so darn romantic and mysterious but I love white for its ability to make everything feel and look clean, airy and open. So how does one stay consistent and clear in their branding while staying true to themselves?

    1. This is a great question! When I am establishing a brand with a client, one of the first things I do is create a general style guide. It includes the set colors & fonts, and basic rules for sizing and goals. There's nothing wrong with sticking a general color scheme. White and black are definitely considered neutrals when it comes to branding, so you can't go wrong there... but it was pink or bright yellow, that'd be a different story.

So definitely consider create a general style guide for your brand and establish the visual elements that you want and DONT want. It's great for having a quick reference when whipping up a blog post or designing new graphics.
